Do you suffer from headaches, face and neck pain? Have you tried to change your habits, blamed it on stress, or are you living on over the counter or prescription pain killers to relieve the pain? You are not alone! And fortunately, there are new technologies that may be able to help improve or even fully alleviate your pain and discomfort. This new technology is called Neuromuscular Dentistry.
What is Neuromuscular Dentistry?
Neuromuscular Dentistry is a new form of Dentistry that deals with the muscles of the face and neck and how they are strained. These strained muscles can affect how your teeth come together and can cause all kinds of pain and pressure in the head and neck.
How does it work to relieve my symptoms?
We now have a machine called a TENS unit or Myomonitor that can find your most relaxed resting point, which allows us to guide your bite to that optimal point of rest every time you bite down, therefore relieving the stress in your muscles and alleviating a lot of your symptoms. This is achieved by using a bite-guard or orthotic that can help to reposition your jaw into that resting place.
How do I know it this is right for me?
You may be a candidate for Neuromuscular Dentistry if you suffer from any of the following symptoms on a regular basis.
- Tension Headaches or Migraines
- Pain and/or pressure in and around your eyes
- Sinus pain and pressure or congestion
- Ringing in your ears
- Grinding or clenching your teeth
- Pain in and around your jaw
- Soreness in the neck and shoulder areas
We strongly suggest that people who are suffering from some or all of the symptoms mentioned above, call and schedule an appointment with our office so that we can evaluate you for issues with your bite.
